May Festival at St James'

On Saturday 31st May 2014 we celebrated the Visitation by the Blessed Virgin Mary to Elizabeth. For many centuries the month of May has been
observed as a special time for acknowledging the key role of Mary as mother of Jesus. Without her cooperation and dedication the Christian
Gospel could not have taken shape. She brought us to Christ, and in May the church remembers and says "Thank you!"
At St James' we were delighted to be joined by the Choir of St Mary's Priory Church, Warrington, under the Directorship of Michael Wynne,
who provided the music for our Festival Services. The setting they chose was the Missa Brevis in F by Mozart.
The Festival began with the Angelus at noon, followed by Festival Sung Eucharist with Solemn Procession. As Preacher we were glad to welcome
Fr David Long, priest at the RC Church of St Albans, Liscard. He spoke movingly of the need to follow Our Lady's example of faithful love as we
live our Christian lives.
Lunch was provided by the members of the local Cell of Our Lady of Walsingham - the table creaked, the feast rapidly met its appointed destiny,
and judging by the laughter and animated conversation the occasion was appreciated by all present. Our thanks to those who worked so hard to provide it!
The service of Benediction after lunch provided a fitting closure to an inspiring day.
