Lent at St James'
article posted 7 Feb 2015

Lent at St James' is always a busy time - extra Eucharists, Stations of the Cross, Lent Study Groups. All these 'extra' activities are exercises to help us deepen our knowledge and appreciation of our Faith, and hopefully to prepare us afresh for a worthy celebration of Easter.

This year we have been asked to host the Deanery Lent Course for the Winwick Deanery. This will be led by our Diocesan Theological Advisor the Revd Rod Garner, who is also Vicar of Holy Trinity, Southport. He was also at one time Vicar of St Thomas', Eccleston, so is familiar with our area.

The course, called, 'BEING CHRISTIAN', will consist of four Sessions, each on Thursday evenings, beginning THURSDAY MARCH 5th. The course will take place in our Parish Room. Refreshments will be available from 7pm. and the Course will begin at 7.30pm. For us, this means that the Rosary Group will take place as usual. But it will also mean that we won't be following our usual pattern of 'extra' Thursday evening Eucharists in Lent - although we will have two!

Looking opposite, it seems a pretty challenging programme we have set ourselves - but surely, that's what Lent is about.

And just so we don't run out of energy on the way, don't forget what has now become a Lent institution - the Lent Lunches, each Friday in the Parish Room 12 noon - 1.30pm.

So, there you have it - food for the body as well as for the soul!

Why not come and feed on both...
