It has been an exciting start to a new school year for the children!

The school has welcomed their new cohort of children into Reception class. The children have settled in well, "buddying up" with the year 6 children, and are already making good use of the new outdoor play area, which was completed in July, and also of the newly developed library.

The school is keen to develop the love of reading this year and some classes have already visited Haydock library.

Parents and children have generously supported the harvest festival held at Church and the McMillan coffee morning, donating goods and cakes as well as raising round 200 for a good cause. The children will also be supporting the Rotary shoebox appeal over the coming weeks by donating toys, gifts and household items for Eastern European people who live in poverty.

This new school year has also seen the launch of the St James University which children attend after school and join in activities to work towards badges and credits which will eventually help them to graduate at the end of each key stage. During these sessions they develop their skills and knowledge and have great fun creating and learning. Clubs include photography, musical theatre and a variety of different sports and arts. Children will showcase their learning in an open event later in the year.

The school is also working with the Yorkshire Bank to encourage pupils and parents to "save for a rainy day". The school bank is run by the children at school. The pupils had to complete application forms to apply for the jobs of Bank Manager, Assistant Bank Manager and cashiers. Interviews were held by staff from the Yorkshire Bank and the appointments were made. The children then attended training at the branch in St Helens where they learned how the bank works. The bank is open every break time for children to access.

School has also been making good use of the new mini bus since September. This has included supporting both our boys' and girls' football teams who have had some fabulous results already. We look forward to many more successes and new experiences in future weeks.

Please remember that you have a open invitation to join us at the Eucharist - details on the weekly Pew Sheet and in the "This Week" section of the Church web site
